Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Helmut E. Meyer, the Medizinische Proteom-Center is one of the world's leading institutes in proteome- and protein analysis. Its research interest covers all medical areas as well as natural scientific fundamentals. The methods used include gel- and chromatography-based separation techniques with subsequent mass spectrometry, protein biochips and innovative bioinformatics.

The Medizinisches Proteom-Center is the driving force of many national as well as international projects such as:

• Coordination of the  Human Proteome Organisation's Brain Proteome Project (HUPO BPP)

• Coordination of the Proteomics Data Collection (ProDaC) within the 6th EU Framework Programme

• NGFNplus (Parkinson, Adipositas, Neuroblastom, BTN)
