Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Helmut E. Meyer, the Medizinische Proteom-Center is one of the world's leading institutes in proteome- and protein analysis. Its research interest covers all medical areas as well as natural scientific fundamentals. The methods used, include gel- and chromatography-based separation techniques with subsequent mass spectrometry, protein biochips and innovative bioinformatics.

The Medizinisches Proteom-Center is a driving force for many national and international projects, such as:

  • PROFILE (Predictive biomarkers and drug targets for the individualized management of liver diseases)
  • Coordination of the Brain Proteome Project by the Human Proteome Organisation (HUPO BPP)
  • Coordination of the "Biomarkerchip for Parkinson Syndrom (ParkCHIP)-Project"
  • Coordination of the "Fast quantifying of proteins in complex biological systems for optimizing and controlling bioprocesses (Q-ProM)-Project"
  • NGFNplus (Functional Genomics of the Parkinson Syndrom, neuroblastoma, Brain Tumor Network)
  • SFB 642: GTP- und ATP-dependent membrane processes
  • SFB/TRR 60: Interaction of viruses with cells from the immune system with persistent viral infections - Basis for immune therapies and inoculations
  • ProteomXchange consortium (within the seventh EU-framework)
  • Alzbioindigo (in the NEw INDIGO program of the seventh EU-framework)
